Social Networking
Social networking carries great rewards, but also great risks. While most people have a Facebook account, it is less common for people to be aware of the issues that could be caused by sharing their lives on the internet.
The main issue with social networking, or any web platform that emphasizes the sharing of personal information is privacy. While people may not consider the information they post on Facebook to be particularly insightful or useful to a malicious person, the mere act of maintaining an account aggregates all information for easy access.
Fortunately, there is a solution. Facebook and other social media tools have privacy settings that allow users to control what and how much of their information is shared. These settings also allow users to decide what they would like to share with various groups, as well as the world at large. While nothing can beat self-scrutiny when posting online, users that are concious of the security settings available to them can take a proactive stance against social networking problems.
